August is Washington Wine Month in state liquor stores

July 26, 2011

OLYMPIA – Washington state liquor stores will celebrate the 27th Annual Washington Wine Month in August. This year, the theme is “A Fine Time for Washington Wine,” which was the basis of a recent newspaper editorial by Gov. Chris Gregoire.

“Washington’s wine industry continues to grow, blending our state’s rich agricultural history with the innovative spirit of our citizens,” said Sharon Foster, Washington State Liquor Control Board (WSLCB) Chair. “We are pleased to sell such fine products that are made in our own backyard.”

During Washington Wine Month, state liquor stores broaden and diversify the selection of Washington wines and set up displays surrounding the annual theme. More wine is sold in state liquor stores in August than in any other month except December. A listing of featured Washington Wine Month wines is available here.

“Washington State wines are widely recognized for delivering both exceptional quality and extraordinary value,” said Robin Pollard, the Washington Wine Commission Executive Director. “Our state’s growers and winemakers produce world-class wines from dozens of grape varieties, and we’re proud to see stores across the state showcasing the great diversity of our industry during Washington Wine Month.”

State and contract liquor store and product information is available on the WSLCB website at lcb.wa.gov.
