Spriits and Tasting

Please Note: The spirits tasting pilot restarted in February.

 Beginning September 1, 2011, the Washington State Liquor Control Board (WSLCB) will conduct a year-long spirits tasting pilot in 30 state, contract and tribal liquor stores statewide.

The pilot was established by Engrossed Substitute House Bill 1202 during the 2011 Legislative Session.

Consumer Education

The products tasted will be in the premium category and above. With more than 1,100 products available in state stores, our customers can enhance their product knowledge by meeting distillers’ representatives and potentially trying something they may never have considered before.

Public Safety

Public safety is the WSLCB’s top priority. As part of every tasting:

  • IDs will be checked;
  • Tasting will be limited to ¼ oz with four samples maximum;
  • Only product sponsors, such as a distiller representative, may serve samples;
  • Servers must be Mandatory Alcohol Server Training (MAST) certified.

Tasting Days and Locations

Stores are permitted one tasting event per week. Currently, tasting events will be either Fridays or Saturdays from 4 - 6 p.m. For a listing of pilot store locations and upcoming sampling events, please see Events menu at left.
